Calvary Launches New Website

On May 18th, 2021, Calvary launched its new website. Designed by Kim Knowles, our office administrator, the new website was developed using Squarespace, a platform that provides templates for website building, as well as a hosting service, for a subscription fee. The Calvary website is based on a “Brine” template from Squarespace but has been extensively customized to suit Calvary’s needs. With the previous website dating back to 2011, it was definitely time for a change.

Calvary also registered a new domain with Squarespace, “Calvaryuc.ca” which replaces the previous domain of “calvaryunitedchurch.on.ca.”

It is important to note that the new website is mobile-friendly and works well on your smart phone and tablet, in addition to your computer.

A new logo was created by Bruce Jones, which brings a fresh, contemporary look and fits in well with the colour scheme. The primary colour of indigo blue was drawn from the background of the cross in the Sanctuary and the colour of the choir gowns.

Since the new website was created in-house, we now have the ability to update the website on a regular basis. Hopefully this will drive traffic to the website since there will always be new content to view.

Some of the sections that will have frequent updates include:

  • The Home Page – the “Latest Updates” section will be updated as news comes in.

  • Calvary News – This section includes the Tuesday Email Updates and also contains more lengthy news articles that will be linked from the home page.

  • Music – Includes recordings of the choir singing which will be frequently changed and members of the senior choir will regularly share their favourite anthem titles.

  • Calendar and Events – All events and meetings taking place will be included both on the calendar and in the event section.

  • Photos – New photos will be added regularly on all pages.

Thank you to the website committee for their time and efforts:

We would also like to thank David’s daughter, Sarah, who suggested Squarespace as an option, since we might not have heard of it otherwise! Thank you to Bruce Jones for supplying most of the photos, Gerry LaRocque for re-sizing them and Marlene Jones for proofing the text.

Kim will continue to manage the website, so if you have any suggestions, please let her know. She is always looking for new content!
