2020-21 was an unprecedented time but did allow moments for quiet reflection on our universe and the space we occupy in it.
Four Calvary members took part in a 6 week course called ‘Climate Conversations’, organized by Climate Action London - an eye opening 6 weeks about climate change, its causes, and how to slow it down and reduce its horrible effects. The final session focused on ‘Greening Your Church’. The National United Church has committed to reducing its carbon emissions by 80% by 2050, and has a program ‘For The Love of Creation’. Among its many activities, it offers 2:1 matching grants to congregations for projects reducing the carbon footprint of church properties.
Calvary, through its Property Committee, has done great work toward reaching this goal by replacing windows and increasing the efficiency of our heating systems.
With many inspirational stories from across the country, we are motivated to continue the work. Some congregations have done energy audits on their buildings, installed solar panels, planted pollinator gardens, and built composters, to name a few.
MORE STILL CAN BE DONE . . .
The pollinator garden is our first project, up and running this summer led by our garden group. The plan is to add colour and variety to our existing gardens with an exchange and share program of native plants to attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds .
Introducing the Calvary Green Steering Committee - Bonnie McNichol, Marlene Wyatt, Karen Butt and Lyse Geldard.
There will be many opportunities to get involved. Please feel free to contact us at any time. New members are always welcome.
Thank you Calvary, for your continued support
