Calvary Compass – January 16, 2024 - Calvary United Church, www.calvaryuc.ca

Dear Friends of Calvary,

 Winter and the cold weather has definitely come and the people who enjoy winter sports will be able to get out and enjoy them. Stay warm since this cold weather is planning to stay for a little bit longer.

Thank you to Lynn McClary and the Affirming Committee for the informative and uplifting worship service last Sunday.

Rev. Kerry will be back on January 17th. Until then, Rev. Wendy Noble will be covering for Emergency Pastoral Care. If you need to contact her, Kim will call her and relay the message.

Worship Services are all live-streamed:

January 21 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbyuGNDZpH0

January 28 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmYJOS_uFVw

ANNUAL REPORTS

Please write up your annual reports and send them to Kim by Friday, February 9th so that she can collate them and prepare the booklet containing the various reports before the Annual Meeting. Please note that submissions should use the Arial font and 12 pt. size. Do not format with page numbers, headers or footers.

VOLUNTEERS FOR THE CHURCH NURSERY

Unfortunately, it is unpredictable when we will have little ones for the church nursery each Sunday. However, it is important to at least know that there will be a person each Sunday who is willing to cover the nursery if  we get some little ones. If you are willing to help, please call or email Mary Kannakko - mkannakko@rogers.com or (519-672-8286).

TRIVIA NIGHT WITH THE KIWANIS

The Kiwanis Club that Brian McNichol and Elmore Hill belong to is holding a Trivia Night on March 1st. The proceeds are going to 2 charities that support young people - Youth Opportunities Unlimited and Thames Valley Education Foundation.

Please consider entering a team and having an enjoyable evening out.

The cost is $200/team of 8 or $25/person or $30 at the door

LONDON COMMUNITY CHAPLAINCY

The Outreach Committee will collect non-perishables for the London Community Chaplaincy throughout the entire year with the exception of July and August. These items are shared between both locations - Southdale and Limberlost, but are dropped off at the Southdale location periodically, as they have the larger storage area. Occasionally we will provide updates/suggestions regarding items currently needed. Breakfast items, such as boxed cereals, oatmeal, peanut butter, juice boxes and nut free school snacks (eg. granola bars and fruit cups) are some of the highest need items. As always thank you for your continued support and generosity.

Psalm for the Week:

Psalm 86: 8 - 12 (from the New Revised Standard Version translation)

            For you are great and do wondrous things;

                you alone are God.

            Teach me your way, O Lord,

                that I may walk in truth;

                give me an undivided heart to revere your name.

            I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart,

                and I will glorify your name forever.

 Prayer for the Week:

            God of glory and wonder,

            we give thanks to you for the countless blessings and benefits you give.

            May we know you more clearly, love you more dearly,

            and follow you more nearly,

            day by day praising you, with the Son and the Holy Spirit,

            one God, now and forever. Amen.
