Calvary Compass – April 8, 2025 - Calvary United Church, www.calvaryuc.ca
Dear Friends of Calvary,
This Sunday is Palm Sunday. Communion will be served with a Benevolent Offering taken. The children will be staying up for the entire service since they will be singing with the choir and also taking communion.
On Wednesday, April 9th at 7:00 pm, the next Lenten Worship Service will take place at St. Andrew's Memorial Anglican Church -55 Foxbar Road. At the different churches, the worship services have all been interesting and unique.
During Holy Week (April 14 – 17), Rev. Kerry will be conducting a 30 minute walk Monday - Thursday afternoons at 3pm for those who wish to participate. Meet at the parking lot doors. Calvary has been invited to a Maundy Worship Service at 7pm at White Oaks United Church on Thursday, April 17th. The Good Friday service will be at St. James Westminster Anglican church at 11:00 am and Easter Sunday is at Calvary.
The Easter letters are now printed and available at the back of the Sanctuary. Those not picked up will be mailed.
On Sunday, April 27th, Calvary will begin holding worship services at 11:00 am. The reason for the change is the Collaborate Ministry Plan with Riverside, White Oaks, Wesley-Knox and Calvary. The purpose is to accommodate the minister conducting the 9:30 am worship service at Riverside U.C. and then returning to their own church for the 11:00 am service. A copy of the Ministers' schedule is located on the bulletin board at the back of the sanctuary.
The Easter Edition of the Catalyst has been emailed and mailed to those without email. If you did not receive the Catalyst, please let Kim know in the office. There are printed copies available at the back of the sanctuary.
Worship Services are all live-streamed:

BAPTISM AND BECOMING A MEMBER
Considering baptism or becoming a member of Calvary United Church? Everyone is welcome at Calvary!
The sacrament of Baptism and welcoming new members (including those transferring from another church) will take place during worship on Sunday, May 11 (Mother's Day) at 11 am.
Please notify Rev. Kerry by Easter Sunday, April 20th if you are interested and he will let you know what is involved in becoming a member or being baptized.
WHEELCHAIR
Does anyone have a wheelchair with foot pedals? The wheelchair that we have in the sanctuary does not have them and we feel for safety reasons, we should have one with foot pedals. If you are willing to donate one to the church, please let Kim know in the office.
2025 Lenten Project
The Ontario School Nutrition Program supports children facing food insecurity so that no child in London goes to school hungry. Your donations will help make this a reality. Donation envelopes are located in the church sanctuary. Please make cheques payable to the VON with Ontario School Nutrition Program in the memo line. Thank you for your support.
Please submit your donation by Sunday, April 20th. VON will issue tax receipts for donations of $10 or more at the year’s end.
CALVARY GREEN
TREE EQUITY
Tree equity refers to the concept of ensuring that all communities have equal access to the benefits that trees provide regardless of their income level, ethnicity or location. This means planting and maintaining trees in areas where that may have been under resourced.
Trees improve air quality by absorbing pollutants, reducing respiratory illnesses and limiting greenhouse gas emissions. Shade is provided which keeps urban temps cooler. DID YOU KNOW that a well treed neighbourhood can reduce temperatures on a hot summer's day by approximately 2.5 degrees C compared to a neighbourhood without trees?
Trees not only offer environmental advantages, but also contribute to our well-being by providing habitats for wildlife and promoting mental and physical health.
Currently, Calvary Green through Greening Sacred Spaces has been helping facilitate a Tree Equity project in the NE section of the city.
Come visit our Tree Equity Display at the GSS booth at Earth Fest 2025, City Plaza Central Library, downtown Sat. April 26 ( 11-4) free admission, over 100 exhibitors, speakers and children's activities. SEE YOU THERE!

Psalm for the Week:
Psalm 118: 20 -24 from the World English Bible Translation
This is the gate of Yahweh;
the righteous will enter into it.
I will give thanks to you, for you have answered me,
and have become my salvation.
The stone which the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
This is Yahweh's doing.
It is marvelous in our eyes.
This is the day that Yahweh has made.
We will rejoice and be glad in it.
Prayer for the Week:
God of all creation,
we give you thanks for the heavens, the earth,
and for how you created rest for our daily living.
Help us find sabbath rest and lives that are filled
with obligations and too many commitments.
As we find rest in you, empower us to offer rest
to one another in Jesus' name. Amen.
Prayer focus: Pray for those who are troubled by daily news.
