Calvary Compass – April 9, 2024 - Calvary United Church, www.calvaryuc.ca
Dear Friends of Calvary,
Hopefully, some of you were able to witness the total Solar Eclipse on Monday. They say that the next total Solar Eclipse is in 76 years. (Photo taken by Rev. Kerry)
Kim Knowles is going to be away from noon on Thursday, April 11th to April 21st. She will be back in the church office on Tuesday, April 23rd. Nancy Hind will be checking for any phone and email messages while Kim is away.
The next edition of the Compass will be April 23rd.
Calvary will be hosting the 64th Kiwanis Music Festival in the sanctuary from April 15 -17 & 19 and April 22 -24 & 26.
This Sunday, April 14th, the worship service will be focused on the Earth and its wonderous beauty. Rev. Kerry asks that we all bring a piece of plastic that represents something you are trying to eliminate from your shopping routine. Examples: plastic raspberry containers with the piece plasticized material glued into the bottom; (remember when raspberries came in a wooden pint box); Plastic laundry detergent bottles (eliminate them either through powdered detergent or other new technologies); Plastic knife, fork and spoon sets that we get at take-out meal (many places are starting to give out bamboo or wooden utensils or ask if you would use your own at home). If you can't think of anything, not to worry as Rev. Kerry has many plastic items that can be shared with you and be picked up from a blue bin when you arrive.
Worship Services are all live-streamed:

CONSIDERING MATTHEW SHEPARD
First-St. Andrew's Senior Choir, Soloists, Chamber Orchestra and their Music Director, Chris Fischer, are performing a musical production entitled "Considering Matthew Shepard". In the Fall of 1998, Matthew Shepard was a young gay Wyoming University student who was taken by two men who tied him to a fence like a scarecrow and brutally murdered him. Five of us were able to listen to one of their rehearsals. All of us were inspired by the dynamic music that tells the story with music and narratives. The performance is Sunday, April 21st at 3:00 pm at First-St. Andrew's United Church. The tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for students. If you would like further information, check out First-St. Andrew's website ( http://www.fsaunited.com ) or call their church office at 519-679-8182.

Psalm for the Week:
Psalm 135: 1 -3 (King James Version)
Praise ye the Lord,
Praise ye the name of the Lord; praise him,
O ye servants of the Lord.
Ye that stand in the house of the Lord,
in the courts of the house of our God.
Praise the Lord; for the Lord is good:
sing praises unto his name; for it is pleasant.
Prayer for the Week:
Good and gracious God,
with one voice all of your creation sings your praise.
Turn our hearts from that which distracts or divides
our prayer and praise so that we may draw closer to you,
our one and true source. Amen.
