Dear Friends of Calvary,
Hopefully everyone is having a good summer and staying as cool as they can. Hopefully you have been able to get away for at least a mini vacation or day trip somewhere. Rev. Kerry is away on vacation until September 2nd and will return to church on Sunday, September 3rd. During this time period, Rev. Wendy Noble is providing Emergency Pastoral Care. If you need Emergency Pastoral Care, please call the office so that Rev. Noble can be contacted.
Kim Knowles will be on vacation the week of August 21st - 28th. While she is away, Nancy Hind will be checking for phone messages and collecting the mail.
Bill Butt will be providing pulpit supply for August 20th and 27th.
The next Compass editions will be Tuesday, August 29th and Wednesday, September 6th.

BROADVIEW MAGAZINE

CHAMPION
The next CHAMPION meeting will be Wednesday, August 23rd from 1:00 - 3:30 pm. All are welcome to come and play some pickleball, play some cards or games or just come for some conversation. Please bring a water bottle as there will be no formal refreshments. Our regular weekly meetings will begin Wednesday, September 6th.
BOOK REVIEW AND CHALLANGE
Lyse Geldard has submitted a brief review of the book entitled "The Year of Living Biblically" by A.J. Jacobs. This book is from Calvary's library. Lyse is challenging the Calvary community to read a book from the Calvary library and do a brief review or recommendation to be put into an edition of the Compass. The Calvary library has a whole assortment of great books to read. The library is open on Sunday mornings and can be opened during the week by Patrick or Kim. If you are unfamiliar with its location, it is off of the Meeting Room in the lower level.
A Year of Living Biblically by A. J. Jacobs
reviewed by Lyse Geldard
The author's journey to live each day, (all 365) following both testaments literally.
An extremely entertaining, witty read that will put a smile on your face. Jacob manages to charm the reader while remaining completely reverent. He consults with clergy both Christian and Jewish for their insights and finds himself in many funny situations. I highly recommend this book.
To quote one reviewer ... “Thou shalt not be able to put it down.”

There will be no Bible Study until September 7th when Rev. Kerry has returned from vacation.
