Stained Glass Windows
UCW will meet on Thursday, February 16th at 1:30 - 3:30 pm in the sanctuary for a presentation about the stained glass windows on the southern wall of the sanctuary. All are welcome to hear the presentation by Ruthanne and view the windows in-person or by Zoom.
Editor's comment - Ruthanne's previous presentation of the windows on the Garfield or northern side was extremely informative and interesting!!! This presentation is really worth coming to as Ruthanne adds a lot of information that you would not really think about. Men and women are invited!

Black History Month
Every February, people across Canada and the United States participate in Black History Month events and festivities that honour the legacy of Black people in Canada and their communities.
The 2023 theme for Black History Month is: “Ours to Tell”. This theme represents both an opportunity to engage in open dialogue and a commitment to learning more about the stories Black communities in Canada have to tell about their histories, successes, sacrifices and triumphs.
No matter where you live, we invite all Canadians to learn more about these communities, and how they continue to help shape Canadian history.
For more information on Black History Month in Canada, visit: https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/campaigns/black-history-month.html
Each Tuesday during Black History Month, we will inform you, through the Calvary Compass, about a black person or a community that has made significant contributions to Canada. This Tuesday we start with the photograph of local Ingersoll resident and one-time all-star baseball player Charlie Kelly, his picture is attached.
Charlie was still a teenager when he enlisted with the 168th Battalion, Oxford's Own in 1916. On his Attestation Papers, he listed Athlete as his current occupation.
Once Charlie was shipped overseas with the rest of the men from Oxford County, he was recruited to play baseball for the Canadian troops. During one of his games, he got to play in front of, and later meet a rather regal and avid baseball fan, King George V! LENT
Lent is a period of 40 days during which Christians remember the events leading up to and including the death of Jesus Christ, whose life and teachings are the foundation of Christianity. This year Lent begins on Wednesday February 22nd and ends on April 3rd. Every year Rev. Kerry utilizes a book of daily lenten devotions that the United Church of Canada bookstore recommends. This year the daily Lenten devotionals are titled, “Good Courage.” The daily devotions aim to inspire with honest testimonies from people who have had the courage to follow their hearts and to faithfully work towards a better world. In these pages, find comfort with examples of practical and courageous hope in the midst of despair, and accept the challenge to deepen your theological understanding of hope, resurrection, and new life. The book costs $16.95 plus taxes and shipping for a total close to $20. If interested contact Rev. Kerry at kerry.stover@calvaryunitedchurch.on.ca or call the office to place your name on the order list for this book of daily devotions and prayers. Financial support is being provided to offset the cost of the book so everyone can follow the devotions.

Psalm for the Week
Psalm 119: 1-3 (New Revised Standard Version)
Happy are those whose way is blameless,
who walk in the law of the Lord.
Happy are those who keep his decrees,
who seek him with their whole heart,
who also do no wrong,
but walk in his ways.
Prayer for the Week
God of promise and purpose,
in the midst of life’s distractions,
still our minds to listen.
In the midst of competing voices,
speak your Word of truth.
Send your Spirit to help us make wise choices.
In the name of Christ Jesus, our teacher and saviour, we pray. Amen.
