Calvary Compass – January 21, 2025 - Calvary United Church, www.calvaryuc.ca
Dear Friends of Calvary,
Hopefully you have your winter clothes on and staying warm. Mother Nature is giving us a taste of frigid weather similar to what we use to get years ago. Be careful walking since the sidewalks, driveways and roads are often very slippery and not totally cleared.
Thank you to Rev. Christina Paradela for coming to Calvary and conducting our Worship Service last Sunday. It is always interesting to hear different styles of preaching and interpretations of the scriptures. Her Children's Connection presentation proved quite interesting with sayings and tricks that were familiar, but still surprising.
Jazz Vespers returns on February 5 at 7pm.
Worship Services are all live-streamed:

LONDON COMMUNITY CHAPLAINCY
Major Changes for the London Community Chaplaincy - Southdale location
Some of you may know that the City of London has been constructing a multi level low rise building at the corner of Southdale & Millbank Dr. to replace some of the townhouses there. The second phase will begin later 2025. As a result, the current location of the Southdale Chaplaincy program ( part of the London Community Chaplaincy {LCC} ) is scheduled for demolition sometime in the next few months. Therefore, the staff of LCC, including Chaplain Pam Cullen, have been tirelessly working to find places to accommodate these programs. It wasn't until recently that they were able to finalize their plans. Moving forward ( at least for the near Future) they will be offering their programs at spaces in Laurier Secondary School & St. Stephen's Memorial Anglican Church on Southdale near Wellington. Because Southdale location stored non-perishables collected at Calvary which were divided between the two sites, Limberlost & Southdale, a new plan for these food items is needed. Tentatively, the non-perishables collected by Calvary will be divided between the Limberlost site of LCC & the Allen Rush Complex. a housing complex in Pond Mills neighbourhood of Banbury Court.
On behalf of the Outreach Committee, I'd like to thank Calvary for their continued generosity supporting the ongoing collection of non-perishables.
We appreciate your patience as plans change and unfold for the London Community Chaplaincy
Bonnie McNichol - co-chair of Outreach
(According to Bonnie, the residents of Southdale Chaplaincy have moved all over London to other locations. Unfortunately, the structures that are replacing the previous townhouse will probably be rented out at the Market Price and not a lower rate as before.)

Psalm for the Week:
Psalm 19: 1, 2, & 14; from the New Revised Standard Version updated edition translation
The heavens are telling the glory of God,
and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day pours forth speech,
and night to night declares knowledge.
Let the words of my mouth and the mediation of my heart
be acceptable to you,
O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
Prayer for the Week:
God, your law of love guides us as we live together in this
global community. Let your word light our way as we proclaim
the good news of your Son to those whose hearts are
constricted by heartbreak, worry and in justice. May your
loving embrace bring them comfort and peace. Amen.
