Acrylic Painting at CHAMPION, January 17, 2023

Calvary Compass – January 24, 2023 - Calvary United Church, www.calvaryuc.ca

Dear Friends of Calvary,

With the snow that surprised us on Sunday and the probability of more snow and poor driving conditions for Wednesday and Thursday, old man winter is telling us that winter is not over. Hopefully all of you stay safe on the roads and sidewalks.

If you are interested in learning how to paint with acrylics or just need to get out of the house to do something fun, please consider coming to CHAMPION on Wednesday afternoons. We are a fun group!

Worship Services are all live-streamed:

•           January 29 - https://youtu.be/O7d0HF3MFlo

•           Recorded service for January 22 -  https://youtu.be/jfKpS7DX4qs

Jazz Vespers is on Wednesday, February 1st at 7pm.

PRAYER REQUESTS

We encourage you to submit prayer requests for family, friends and neighbours that you are concerned about. Prayer requests are sent to the members of the prayer circle on a regular basis. On Sundays, prayer requests can be submitted through the prayer request box that is on the credenza in the west end of the sanctuary. Prayer request cards are located next to the wooden box. You are welcome to write down the name or names of those in need of prayer and put the card in the box or on the offering plate on Sunday morning. We guarantee your privacy. You can also email Rev. Kerry at kerrystover@calvaryunitedchurch.on.ca with your prayer requests.

LENT

Lent is a period of 40 days during which Christians remember the events leading up to and including the death of Jesus Christ, whose life and teachings are the foundation of Christianity. This year Lent begins on Wednesday February 22nd and ends on April 3rd.   Every year Rev. Kerry utilizes a book of daily lenten devotions that the United Church of Canada bookstore recommends. This year the daily Lenten devotionals are titled, “Good Courage.”  The daily devotions aim to inspire with honest testimonies from people who have had the courage to follow their hearts and to faithfully work towards a better world. In these pages, find comfort with examples of practical and courageous hope in the midst of despair, and accept the challenge to deepen your theological understanding of hope, resurrection, and new life. The book costs $16.95 and if interested contact Rev. Kerry at kerry.stover@calvaryunitedchurch.on.ca or call the office to place your name on the order list for this book of daily devotions and prayers. Order date is February 3rd.  Financial support is being provided to offset the cost of the book so everyone can follow the devotions.
