 Calvary Compass – June 18, 2024 - Calvary United Church, www.calvaryuc.ca

Dear Friends of Calvary,

This Sunday, Praise Soewu, is being confirmed. Praise attended Confirmation Classes at White Oaks United Church with several other youth from different United Churches this Spring. One usually finds Praise upstairs in the balcony helping Ken McLagan with the live-stream on Sunday. He is a grade 9 student at Catholic Central and attends Calvary with his sister Pearl, brother Peniel and mother Josephine.

Sunday, June 23rd will be the last Sunday School class until September. There will be paper activities at the back of the church for the children to do who attend church during the summer.

A Coffee Hour after church is planned for this Sunday. Some of the vanilla cake, chocolate cake, and gluten free cupcakes will also be served with the liquid refreshments. Please consider joining us in the lower hall before summer vacations start.

London's Pride Parade is Sunday, July 21st. Contact Rev. Kerry if you wish to participate.

BLESSINGS OF THE FIELDS

On Wednesday June 19th, 2024 at 7:00 pm, there will be a Blessing of the Fields. Both fields of wheat will be ready to be harvested in July and the crops will be delivered to the local grain elevators. Proceeds from the sale of wheat will be forwarded to Canadian Foodgrains Bank. The funds are matched by the Canadian government to feed hungry people around the world and to teach subsistence farmers how to farm using healthy sustainable practices.

The event will take place at the farm of Rick and Betty McCracken - 7215 Parkhouse Drive, Melbourne N0L 1T0

CHAMPION

On Wednesday, June 19th at 1:00 pm, Kris Goodman will give a presentation on Wellspring and what it is all about. Many of you know that Kris is very involved in their program and the help that it provides for cancer patients. All are welcome to come and hear Kris' presentation and to ask your questions.

FOSTER CARE

The Children's Aid Society of London is looking for people willing to be foster parents for children from newborns to age 18. Unfortunately, the Society is facing a crisis and in need of more foster parents and homes since they are running out of homes for even the youngest. Many children are being placed out-of-town or in group homes because of the shortage. The C.A.S. values adults of any age, from younger adults to seniors who are retired and have flexible schedules. They also appreciate people who can offer anything from respite care for a couple of days at a time or can provide full-time care to children. The Children's Aid Society provides plenty of support, training opportunities and guaranteed financial compensation.

Psalm for the Week:

Psalm 107: 1 - 3

O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,

for his steadfast loves endures forever.

Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,

                those he redeemed from trouble

and gathered in from the lands,

from the east and from the west,

from the north and from the south.

 Prayer for the Week:

            Loving God,

we give you thanks for your faithfulness especially when we feel abandoned and afraid.

Speak to us with a new voice each day. Assure us of your promise to be with us always,

and that we might act for the sake of others as you have called us.

In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
