Calvary Compass – October 31, 2023 - Calvary United Church, www.calvaryuc.ca

Dear Friends of Calvary,

The colder weather has come, the leaves are turning colours and dropping onto our lawns. Autumn is definitely here.  Don't forget that on Saturday (or Sunday morning at about 2:00 am), the clocks will be turned BACK one hour to Eastern Standard Time.

Rev. Kerry will be away this week. Rev. Wendy Noble will be providing Emergency Pastoral Care. If you have need of her, please give Kim a call in the church office so that she can contact Rev. Wendy Noble.

CALVARY GREEN

Thank you to everyone who supported our first Green Sacred Spaces joint venture with Reforest London. The Interfaith Tree Planting was a great success. Check out some of the familiar smiling faces.

SHARING EXTRA 2024 CALENDARS

If you receive any 2024 calendars which you don't need, please place in the drop-off boxes at the back of the sanctuary or in the foyer off of the parking lot. Calendars will be offered to those who attend the Community Breakfast or others.

CHAMPION

On Wednesday, November 15th, we will have guest speakers who are the authors of the book entitled  "Knowing No Defeat". A few years ago, Peter Telford, a history teacher at South C.I., decided to write a book with Connie Weir and Jerry Selk, also teachers at South, about  the young people from Old South and especially South students who participated in the Second World War. Photos were taken of their family homes and details about each of the young people were presented. You will find their presentation very interesting.

INVASION SCREENING PARTY INVITE

Dan Leaver from Wesley-Knox United Church is offering a screen party of "Invasion" a short documentary on the Wetsuweten Land Defenders in Northern BC. The Screening Party on November 22nd is to learn more about these issues happening in Canada with the Indigenous Communities and a discussion of living in solidarity and what we could do in support locally. For details, see the poster attached.

NON-PERSISHABLES FOR LONDON COMMUNITY CHAPLAINCY (SOUTHDALE)

We will be collecting non-perishables for LCC in October and November. Breakfast items in particular are needed. If you are able, please bring items to the church until Sunday November 26th.

Did you know that the food is delivered to Southdale Chaplaincy by Bonnie and Brian McNichol. If there is a need at Limberlost Chaplaincy, some of the food is taken up there by their staff. Southdale has a bigger storage area than Limberlost so a lot is stored at Southdale Chaplaincy.

CALVARY T-SHIRTS

There are more Calvary T-Shirts available for purchase. The sizes available are small to 2X. If you would like to purchase one, they are $15 each. If you speak to Kim, she can save you one and you can pickup from the church office.
