September 8, 2021: Cleaning products that claim to be "natural" are not always!

DID YOU KNOW ... plastics shed and leach toxins into everything - our skin, our soil, our water. It pollutes and chokes our oceans, rivers and lakes. It is deadly to all marine life (including sea birds) and aquatic plants. It affects the entire ecosystem.

Cleaning  products (personal and household) that claim to be "natural" are not always!

Here are some suggestions that others personally use. Most of these ingredients are already in your home.

  • Coconut oil as a natural facial cleanser.

  • White vinegar and baking soda cleans just about everything.

  • No need to constantly buy products in plastic spray bottles and tubs. Reuse what you have. Glass is great too.

  • All purpose cleanser ( 1/2 c white vinegar: 2 tbsp. baking soda; 10 drops tea tree, lavender, lemon essential oil.)

  • Mix vinegar, essential oils and a little water before adding the baking soda in a clean spray bottle then slowly fill with water to the top. Gently shake (to avoid fizzing) Voila!!

  • Window cleaner (1 part white vinegar and 3-4 parts water) Mix and spray.

  • Oven cleaner (1/2 c baking soda and 2-3 tbsp. water) Mix to get a spreadable paste. Spread over oven walls and scrubbing in. Let it rest overnight. In a spray bottle, put 1/2 c white vinegar and spray, wipe and repeat until clean. No harsh chemicals here.

  • Another visit to Reimagine on Piccadilly and washing strips were purchased (as recommended). They work well.

  • Tea tree oil is so versatile with many natural uses from soothing a burn, freshening your laundry, to working as an antiseptic on small cuts.

So many simple home recipes that grandma often knew best.

Starting next month Calvary Green Tuesday Updates will be a monthly feature. Any thoughts or suggestions for greening are always appreciated.

Remember to think mindfully of our world around us.
