August 31, 2021: Local Fresh Produce

Now is a great harvest time in Southern Ontario ... local, fresh produce in abundance at either the grocery stores or local open markets - so many healthy choices.

  • During COVID lockdowns, many households had farm goods delivered directly to their door in small reusable/returnable containers. You can still order generic boxes or make your own selections (sharing with family and friends). Check online to source.

  • You can't go wrong with going local and supporting sustainable food in our community. Local requires less processing and transportation costs. (remember to bring your own bags and thoroughly wash produce.)

  • Reap the bounty of your own backyard garden or from a community garden you may have joined and share extras with family and friends.

  • Enjoy that container gardening on your patio, balcony or deck - herbs outdoors or indoors all-year-round.

  • Try several meatless days a week and less dairy.

DID YOU KNOW adopting a more vegetarian or vegan diet is a far heathier lifestyle (I know not for everyone) Just simply by reducing your meat intake and incorporating more fruit, vegetables and legumes, you can reduce greenhouse gas emissions. (cattle release high amounts of methane through digestion and manure.)
