July 6, 2021: Adjusting Our Day to Day Behaviours Helps Us to be More Energy Wise

DID YOU KNOW…..up to 10%of our hydro bill is wasted on all things plugged into outlets … pull out all plugs when possible , even charging cords when not in use.

  • Turn off computers and all idle electronics.

  • Turn off lights, when no one is in room.

  • Use natural light - open blinds and drapes.

  • Replace bulbs with LED…uses 75% less electricity and can last up to 25x longer.

  • Use task lighting where possible.

  • Invest in a programable thermostat (or manually program your thermostat) reducing energy consumption over night and when no one is home.

  • Use appliances (dishwashers, washers/dryers) in the evening when cooler

  • Use crock pots, toaster ovens when convenient, instead of a full oven.

  • Use ceiling and portable fans in conjunction with your AC (allowing your AC to cool at a higher temp).

  • Maintain your AC so it can run at peak efficiency.

  • Close blinds, facing south and west to avoid the full summer sun.

  • One of the biggest energy users in your home can be your water heater: turn temperature down, insulate heater, invest in an energy efficient tankless model or just use less hot water.

Our precious energy… Let’s use common sense and not waste it.
