Calvary Compass – April 12, 2023 - Calvary United Church, www.calvaryuc.ca

Dear Friends of Calvary,

Hopefully, you are enjoying this beautiful Spring weather and been able to get outside for walks or just to sit and enjoy the warmer weather.

This Wednesday afternoon at C.H.A.M.P.I.O.N. at 1:00 pm, Marlene Wyatt, Karen Butt, Lyse Geldard and Bonnie McNichol are going to give a talk on Calvary’s pollinator gardens. They will also be answering your questions afterwards. All are invited. It will soon be gardening time.

This Sunday is Earth Sunday, which brings to attention Earth Day on April 22nd. Earth day celebrations around the globe honour the achievements of the environmental movement and raises awareness of the need to protect Earth’s natural resources for future generations. The first Earth Day was held April 22, 1970.  Members of Calvary Green will be participating in the service on Sunday.

Starting the week of April 17th and the week of April 25th, our sanctuary will be busy with Kiwanis Festival vocal performances by children and youth.

Worship Services are all live-streamed:

We will then mail one cheque to cover all subscriptions to Broadview.

KIWANIS MUSIC FESTIVAL – need Volunteers

Calvary will be hosting the Kiwanis Music Festival from April 17-20 and April 25-28. Each day, there are two or three sessions where children and youth will be performing vocally. The house managers would be pleased to have volunteers assist in either welcoming participants and parents, which includes checking names and collecting admission or acting as a secretary, who records the results of the adjudications. If you are interested in volunteering for a morning or afternoon or evening during the above dates would you please contact Mary Margaret to set up a suitable time.

Thank you!

Psalm for the Week:

Psalm 16: 7-9 (New Revised Standard Version translation)

I bless the Lord who gives me counsel;

    in the night also my heart instructs me.

I keep the Lord always before me;

    because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

Therefore my heart is glad, and my soul rejoices;

    my body also rests secure.

Prayer for the Week:

O Holy one,

You are the giver of gladness and wisdom.

You bring fullness to where there is despair,

sorrow, and troubled hearts.

You lift us up out of the valley of the shadows and

bring us to new life in your Son Christ Jesus.

Renew and revive us with your Holy Spirit.

Now and always.  Amen.
