Calvary Compass – March 28, 2023 - Calvary United Church, www.calvaryuc.ca

Dear Friends of Calvary,

The end of March is upon us and hopefully good Spring weather will follow. This coming Sunday is Palm Sunday where we celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion. There will be individual use communion cups on a table or the credenza as you enter the sanctuary or you can bring your own elements. Please remember that we will have a Benevolent Offering this Sunday along with our regular offering. The Benevolent Offering helps with Community Breakfasts, and other related Benevolent expenses as Calvary continues to help various community based social agencies throughout our city.

Hopefully all of you received your Easter Catalyst by email on Friday. Thank you to Bruce Jones for putting it together, Fran Menard for proof reading it and all those who put in articles and pictures. Hopefully those without email will soon receive theirs in the mail. If you did not receive your Catalyst online, please give Kim Knowles a call so that she can send it to you. If you wish a paper copy of the Catalyst, they are available at the back of the Sanctuary.

London Pro Musica Concert

On Good Friday, April 7 at 7:30pm, London Pro Musica Choir is honoured to present the first annual Common Ground concert.  This year’s theme is the Book of Psalms. This annual concert aims to highlight sacred music, as we work to look beyond our differences and embrace what we share.

The Psalms embody so many of the emotions that form the human condition.  From pain and loss to joy and ecstasy.  These common emotions are found and expressed beautifully and uniquely from culture to culture.

This Good Friday, please plan to attend this meditative and moving concert that will feature music from the Judiac, Christian, and Orthodox traditions.

Psalm 118: 24, 27, 30 (adapted from the New Revised Standard Version)

24: This is the day that God has made;

let us rejoice and be glad in it

27: Praise ye God

for God has given us the true light.

Bind the festal procession with branches,

up to the horns of the altar with praise.

29: O give thanks to God, for there is goodness,

for God's steadfast love endures for ever.

 Prayer for the Week:

O Holy one,

you have made us your own, through Christ Jesus,

and given us a new way of living.

With our hearts lifted high,

We offer you thanks and praise at all times

through Jesus Christ our Saviour,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and forever. Amen
