Calvary Compass – November 8, 2022 - Calvary United Church, www.calvaryuc.ca

Dear Friends of Calvary,

Thank you to everyone who donated or made items for the bazaar, helped set up and take down, greeted everyone, helped sell at the various tables, and to those that purchased items. It was a great success.  It is amazing when everyone comes together for a common purpose. At last count, we made a profit of $5,136! Of course, there will be further small amounts that will come in from sale of various items over the next little while.

Next Sunday, November 13th, Rev. Dr. Joshua Lawrence, from First St. Andrew's United Church will be our guest speaker for Anniversary Sunday. This also is First St. Andrew's Anniversary Sunday and Rev. Kerry Stover will be their guest speaker. Following the service, coffee and treats will be available in the Lower Hall.

Huron Flooring will be sanding down and re-surfacing the remaining areas of the 4th floor. This includes the sewing room and Denise's office. Therefore, the 4th floor area will be out-of-bounds for right now in order for them to complete the work and the finish on the floors can cure. Thanks to Brian Wallace, Denise now has her office painted and a brighter office to work in.

Worship Services are all live-streamed:

YARD Clean-up

Calvary’s Fall Yard Clean-up will take place this Saturday, starting at 9am. Bring your own rake. Hope to see you there!

CLOTHING COLLECTION

During the month of November, the Outreach Committee asks that you bring in gently used winter clothing to be donated to Ark Aid and other organizations such as The Good Sam Cupboard at Dundas Centre United Church. Many are struggling to buy groceries and pay their rent and therefore do not have the money to purchase warm clothes for the winter. There will be a bin in the parking lot entrance/alcove to leave your clothing donations.

Looking for winter clothes for men, women and children including winter coats, boots in good condition (no leaks), warm winter scarves, socks and sweaters. (Please note that we will also continue to have the Mitten Tree for the London Community Chaplaincy with donations of hats, mitts, scarves, and socks in December.)

Thank you in advance for your donations.

CALLED TO BE THE CHURCH

By now, everyone should have received their envelope with the questionnaire in regards to your future offering amounts and the Anniversary letter and envelope. Even if you do not plan to change your amounts, please bring your completed questionnaire back to the church or drop it into our mail slot or mail it to the church. Stewardship and Finance uses the completed forms to help them with the 2023 Church Budget. All Committees must submit their proposed budgets by the end of November so that Stewardship and Finance can review them and decide if those expenditures are possible in 2023.

Psalm for the Week:

Psalm 139, vs 1-3 (World English Bible translation)

Yahweh, you have searched me,

    and you know me.

You know my sitting down and my rising up.

You perceive my thoughts from afar.

You search out my path and my lying down,

and are acquainted with all my ways.

Prayer for the Week:

Loving God, you have created us to live in community with one another.

Our life together reflects the profound love you have for each of us.

Shape and mold our lives to mirror your endless love in how we

think and how we act.

We ask this in the name of our Redeemer, Saviour and Friend.  Amen.
