Calvary Compass – October 29, 2024 - Calvary United Church, www.calvaryuc.ca

Dear Friends of Calvary,

On Sunday, Kerry announced that Kim Knowles and Katy Farrow's mother died suddenly. We want to extend our deepest condolences to Kim, Katy, Michael and Kristin as they grieve their loss.

Calvary's Bazaar is this Saturday. If you have Gently Used Items, they can now be brought to the church. Further details about the bazaar are listed later in the Compass. Please note that items must be dropped off during Office hours. The office will be closed this afternoon but will be open Wednesday and Thursday, 9am to 12 and 1 to 4:30.

CALVARY'S BAZAAR

Our Fall Bazaar is just around the corner. The sale is Saturday, November 2nd from 9am - 12noon. Set up is November 1st starting at 9am.

Donations of jewelry, scarves, and hats can be dropped off in the marked boxes at the back door of the church. Books, puzzles and games can be left or put on the stage downstairs. If you have been making crafts please let Pam Harrison know, so that we can be sure to have enough table space. Gently used items can now be brought to the church. Please note that items must be dropped off during office hours. The office will be closed Tuesday afternoon.

All baked goods are appreciated. They can be delivered to the church on the morning of November 1st (to be packaged and priced). Items that sell well are cookies, squares, small loaves, fudge, muffins, tarts, cup cakes (rather than full pies and cakes) plus gluten- free bake goods. Liz Macdonald and Brenda Radforth will be looking after the baked goods.

If you have preserves, please let Mary Kannakko know. If you are looking for jars to put your preserves in, there are some at the parking lot door in a box or in the storage room next to the Scout/Guide den.

If you haven't been asked yet to volunteer, please let Kris Goodman know and she will find you a job. Thanks to everyone that is helping with this year's venture. We really appreciate you! And don't forget to come and shop.

OUTDOOR CLEANUP DAY – Monday, November 4th

The Property Committee decided to do the outdoor cleanup Monday, November 4th at 9:00am. There is yard waste pickup that week. Hopefully Garfield pickup won't be that Monday, but if we miss that week, there is a second starting on November 25th.

Please bring your own rakes, clippers and other equipment.

2025 CALENDARS

Please save any unwanted 2025 calendars. The Outreach Committee will be collecting them starting in early November for redistribution at the community breakfast, the London Community Chaplaincy, etc. Collection boxes will be put out after the bazaar.

Psalm for the Week:

Psalm 146: 1 - 6 New Revised Standard Version updated edition

Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul!

will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God all my life long.

Do not put trust in princes, in mortals, in whom there is no help.

When their breath departs, they return to earth; on that very day their plan perish.

Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God,

who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who keeps faith forever;

 Prayer for the Week:

                Creator God,

you call us to love and serve you

                with body, mind and spirit

                through loving your creation

                and our siblings in Christ.

Open our hearts in compassion and love

for the needs of family, friends and neighbours.

We lift our prayer to you in the powerful

name of Jesus Christ, our Saviour. Amen.

Prayer focus for the week: Peacemakers, especially in warring areas of the world.
