Calvary Compass – September 24, 2024 - Calvary United Church, www.calvaryuc.ca

 Dear Friends of Calvary,

 Sunday, September 29th, we will be observing Orange Shirt Day. If possible, please try to wear your orange shirt or something orange.

Thank you to all who attended the Harvest Dinner. A BIG THANK YOU to all of the people who helped with the preparation and cooking, the setting up and taking down of tables and chairs, the serving and the cleaning up afterwards. It was a lot of work for everyone involved and your efforts were greatly appreciated.

At the Council Meeting on September 18th, Rev. Kerry brought forth correspondence regarding the Ford government's proposal to close some of the province's safe injection sites by the end of this year.

Many faith leaders across the province have signed the online petition requesting the Ford government to change its direction in this matter.

After discussion, it was decided that Rev. Kerry would share the information he shared with Council with you the members and adherents of Calvary U.C.

Rev. Kerry has provided this link so that you can be aware of the issue in our province (Harm Reduction Saves Lives). https://chng.it/jdXpD4pN44

This is a complex issue and Rev. Kerry asks you to take the time to read and familiarize yourself with the information provided and if you feel compelled, please sign the electronic petition. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Rev. Kerry at Kerry.stover@calvaryunitedchurch.on.ca or by calling the office.

Psalm for the Week:

Psalm 139: 1 -5

            O Lord, you examine me and know me.

            You know when I sit down and when I get up;

            even from far away you understand my motives.

            You carefully observe me when I travel or when I lie down to rest;

            you are aware of everything I do.

            Certainly, my tongue does not frame a word

            without you, O Lord, being thoroughly aware of it.

            You squeeze me in from behind and in front;

            you place your hand on me.

 Prayer for the Week:

            God of our everyday living,

            You are the hope and help of all creation.

            Your creative hands have made all in the

            heavens and the earth. Help us live each day

            as your thankful and wonderfully made people.

            In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
