Calvary Compass – September 26, 2023 - Calvary United Church, www.calvaryuc.ca

Dear Friends of Calvary,

The Property Committee has a tree removal company coming on Tuesday morning at 8:30 am to remove two dead trees in our greenspace. Therefore the parking lot will be closed to all vehicles except for the tree removal company trucks for the entire day. If you are coming to the church on Tuesday, please park on the street.

Next Sunday, October 1st, we will celebrate World Wide Communion. A benevolent offering will be taken. You can bring your own elements or use the communion kits that will be at the front of the sanctuary and on the back credenza,

After the Worship Service, a Friendship Lunch will be held in the lower hall hosted by the Membership and Pastoral Care Committee. All are welcome!

The office will be closed this Friday to observe the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation which is Saturday.

If you did not receive your Catalyst online last week, please let Kim Knowles know so that she can send it to you. There will also be printed copies at the back of the sanctuary. Those who do not have internet have been sent a printed copy in the mail.

Worship Services are all live-streamed:

BEDROLLS

Another 16 bedrolls have been distributed along with 3 blankets. This makes roughly 155 bedrolls that have been distributed over the last two years to Project Hope, Ark Aid, and now 519 Pursuit. Thank you to everyone who has contributed fabric & textile supplies, blankets plus white socks and items for the toiletry bags that go into every bedroll. With colder weather soon approaching, the next batch of bedrolls will also include knitted hats that some of our CHAMPIONs have been making from the donated yarn. All three agencies have been thrilled to receive our gifts, providing some warmth and comfort to those on the street or encampments.

FALL BAZAAR

Calvary's Fall Bazaar will be on Saturday, November 4th. If you like to make preserves of any kind, your contributions will be welcomed. There will also be a book sale, jewelry, scarves, purses, and hats sale, and other items plus baked goods. Further information will be forthcoming in the upcoming Compasses.

Correction:  Please note that in the recent Calvary Catalyst the phone number for Pam Harrison is incorrect. If you wish to contact Pam regarding craft items phone 519-686-2559.

LIFE*SPIN

When you are going through your closets and cupboards and find items that don't fit or you do not want, please save them for Life*Spin. After November 5th, we will be collecting winter items such as clothes, coats, jackets, hats, boots and toys for adults and children.

Psalm for the Week:

Psalm 25: 4 - 7 (based on The Message paraphrase)

            Show me how you work, God;

            teach me your ways.

                    Take me by the hand;

                    lead me down the path of truth.

                    You are my Saviour, aren't you?

            Mark the milestones of your mercy and love, God;

            rebuild the ancient landmarks!

                    Forget that I failed you in many ways;

                    Mark me with your sign of love.

            Plan only the best for me, God!

Prayer for the Week:

God, you are good!

At all times and in all places, we praise you.

With the change of seasons, we marvel at

your wonderous creation and give you thanks.

Remember us and bless us with your

never ending love. Amen.
